System requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- A supported Markdown, source-code, structured-data, or configuration file stored on your Mac.
- No account or internet connection is required to preview files.
Developer
Spacefolio is developed and supported by Shanglong Ning, an individual developer. The public support channel below is monitored for app issues, feedback, and feature requests.
Enable Finder Quick Look
- Launch Spacefolio once.
- In the app sidebar, choose Open Extension Settings.
- In System Settings, open General → Login Items & Extensions → Quick Look and enable Spacefolio.
- In Finder, select a supported file and press the Space bar.
You can also choose Try a Sample in Finder in the app to create and select a safe demonstration file.
If Finder shows a plain or empty preview
- Close the Quick Look panel and confirm the extension is enabled.
- Launch Spacefolio, then try the file again in Finder.
- Disable another extension that also claims the same file type; macOS may select only one Quick Look provider.
- Confirm the file is readable and has a supported filename extension. SQLite databases have dedicated previews; other binary content is intentionally rejected.
Theme or settings did not update
Close the current Quick Look panel and press Space again. Theme, text size, line numbers, outline, word wrap, and wide-reading changes apply to the next Finder preview.
Git changes in Finder and the app
Turn on Git Highlights (Command-Option-G), approve a repository or projects folder in the Enable Git Highlights sheet, and wait for local baseline preparation. The grant is read-only; Cancel leaves the feature off. Then select modified tracked files inside that folder in Finder and press Space. You do not need to open each file in Spacefolio first or keep an app window open.
After a commit, checkout, or reset, activate Spacefolio to refresh committed baselines. Settings → Quick Look → Refresh Git Snapshots in Background can optionally start Spacefolio hidden at login and keep those baselines current. It is off by default; ordinary file edits are read live by Finder.
An unavailable baseline or locked App Group is reported in the preview. Return to Spacefolio to finish any macOS access prompt or repeat setup. Repository discovery and cached text have safety limits, so very large or deeply nested projects may not be included. With a repository file open, File → Forget Repository Folder Access removes its saved grant and cached text no longer covered by another grant.
Samples → Git Changes demonstrates additions, edits, removed text, and word-level changes without a real repository grant.
SQLite previews
Files ending in .db, .sqlite, and .sqlite3 use read-only schema and bounded sample-row previews. If a live database cannot show WAL changes, choose Allow Database Folder… and approve only its containing folder. Remove that saved grant with Forget Database Folder Access. Large or changing databases may show a partial-preview warning when safety limits apply.
Large and local-image previews
Spacefolio previews the first 1 MB of a text file to keep Finder responsive. Supported local PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images may appear in Markdown within safety size limits. Remote images are omitted because the renderer is offline.
If local images, sibling links, or related-note controls are unavailable, choose Allow Document Folder Access… and select exactly the folder containing the open Markdown file. Revoke it later with Forget Document Folder Access.
What to include in a support request
- Your macOS version and Spacefolio version.
- The file extension and approximate file size.
- The steps you took and what happened instead.
- Whether the host-app preview and Finder Quick Look differ.
Never attach a confidential document. Use a minimal sample with invented content if the file structure matters.
