1. Scope
This policy describes how the Spacefolio macOS app and its Finder Quick Look extension handle information. “Spacefolio” below means both the host app and that extension. Spacefolio is developed and operated by Shanglong Ning, an individual developer.
2. Data Spacefolio collects
Spacefolio collects no personal data. It has no user accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, telemetry, crash-reporting service, or developer-operated server. The app does not sell or share data and does not create profiles about its users.
3. Files and local processing
Spacefolio reads files when you choose them in the app, drag them into the app, or ask Finder to preview them. Optional folder access also lets it read related local resources, SQLite transaction files, or Git metadata and committed text within the scope you approve. Files are rendered on your Mac. File names, paths, contents, and preview results are not uploaded or sent to the developer or any third party.
Remote images, styles, fonts, and scripts referenced by a document are not loaded. Supported local images from the document’s approved folder may be embedded within safety size limits. To keep previews responsive, Spacefolio reads at most the first 1 MB of a text file. SQLite databases are opened read-only for bounded schema and sample-row inspection. Other binary content is not rendered as text.
4. Information stored on your Mac
Spacefolio stores settings such as your selected theme, text size, reading options, onboarding status, and recent-file references in its sandboxed app containers. Explicit read-only document, repository/projects, and database folder grants are saved as security-scoped bookmarks. A private App Group shares relevant preferences and grants with the Quick Look extension.
With Git Highlights enabled, Spacefolio also stores bounded copies of eligible committed text at HEAD and repository metadata in that App Group. Finder compares the selected working file with this local baseline without opening each file in the app. This information stays on your Mac and is not synchronized by Spacefolio.
You can clear Recent Files and forget saved folder grants in the app. Forgetting a grant revokes its reuse; forgetting repository access also removes cached committed text no longer covered by another grant. Turning Git Highlights off alone keeps the saved grant and cache for later use. Other preferences remain until you reset or remove the app’s local data. macOS controls the lifecycle of sandbox containers and system diagnostic records. No app data is retained on developer-operated systems because none is transmitted.
5. Actions you initiate
When you choose Try a Sample in Finder, a macOS save panel asks you to approve the exact location for the demonstration Markdown file. Spacefolio has no blanket Downloads access. Document folder access for local images or sibling links requires that document’s own folder, not a broader parent. Exports, printing, sharing, copying, and opening policy or support links happen only after you request them and are handled by macOS or your selected app.
Refresh Git Snapshots in Background is off by default. Enabling it registers Spacefolio as a macOS login item to start hidden at login and refresh local baselines after commits, checkouts, or resets. It uses only approved folder access and sends no network data. Disable it in Spacefolio Settings or macOS Login Items.
6. Children’s privacy
Spacefolio is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. Because it collects no personal data from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
7. This website
This support site is a static website hosted by GitHub Pages. It does not use custom analytics, advertising, contact forms, or marketing cookies. GitHub may process technical information such as IP addresses and browser details to deliver and secure the site under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Spacefolio does not receive GitHub’s server logs.
8. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. A change to Spacefolio’s data practices will be disclosed before the affected app version is distributed.
